The cocoon of memory2018
The cocoon of memory
Solyanka Gallery. Deconstruction: phantoms of the past and the future. Installation “Cradle”, 2019. Materials: building fabric, fishing line.
Everything in our life is managed by our memory, and each cell of our body preserves its own memory which means that we are wrapped in the cocoon of our memory. If memory is our accumulated past, does it mean that all this information about the past controls us in the present?
It means that memory distorts our vision and perception.
It is a reflection on what a person gradually creates with the help of feelings which are themselves very fragile, unstable and various, replace each other rapidly and change their subjective, hard and firm 'cocoon' of world perception.
In my work, I want to show memory as a capsule-cocoon. The frame is made of metal wire 5 mm wide.
The idea of the frame's form appeared due to the neuron structure of cortex. Inside the cocoon, you can see a structure consisting of 5 elements, 5 strained paper bands, 5 main senses with main word associations printed on them and matching each of the senses. They were received from a special program of associations - anyone can take part in it. These associations are the most widespread and familiar to everyone.

Is it true that all societies and spheres have images that are imposed and cannot be chosen? The woman is a classic subject - panopticon's convict. The woman is constantly checking if she looks well enough and if she looks in a way that is considered to be correct in public opinion. On the one hand, no-one punishes a western woman, no-one makes her look good, no-one forces her into having a good appearance but she always does it as her discipline obliges her to do so. The images of standard femininity are widespread in the modern culture, and the western woman thinks that she makes her free choice but she is still dependent on stereotypes and fashion cliches. The eastern woman is not as dependent on fashion as being deprived of freedom of choice.

9 pieces of ice 11x17x40 cm
It is a tribute to the painter Francis Alys whose works were among the first ones that were exhibited in this gallery One of his performances was that he took a huge cube of ice into the streets of Mexico. For several hours, he was moving it around the city, leaving fast evaporating water trace on the asphalt. I put cubes of ice into the apertures in the wall where the projectors were. The action finished the moment the ice melted.

Cradle2019
Cradle
Solyanka Gallery.
Deconstruction: phantoms of the past and the future.
Installation 'Cradle', 2019.
Materials: building fabric, fishing line.
The work represents an object in which artists preserve the destroyed parts of the gallery.
Watching all the ongoing destructions around, one feels an urge to preserve part of the past, to not let it go, to protect it, and to keep in cradles everything that might be lost.
